In light of Mickey's recent article in this week's Drapers on the possibilities the internet has opened up for the fashion industry comes this piece of news I stumbled across about a brand called Pamoyo.
We have photo sharing sites (Flikr), music file sharing sites (Napstar) and now comes a new breed: the fashion pattern sharing site. Pamoyo offer their design's as downloadable pdfs containing the patterns to make them yourself in your choice of fabric. All they ask is that you credit them. They are also open to any budding designers who want to adapt their patterns and evolve the design and, if good enough, sell it on their site with the new pattern available for download, operating under a law known as a Creative Commons Licence.

With recent court cases against copyright infringement issued by some of the major fashion houses, and the production of fakes being a hot topic after the landmark Ebay payout last month, this is an idea that may seem uncomprehendable to some. After all that hard work, why would you give it away? But Pamoyo think it a great way to encourage creativity and allow mass research and development by pooling a number of people's resources to get the absolute best out a design, something that with tight season schedules is rarely realised in today's fashion climate.
Could it herald a major internet fashion revolution in the same way music sharing has become a way of life? It'll be an interesting one to follow.
